Educational project created during Art Karavan
By artkaravan My name is Roman Storchak. I have finished my doctorate from the Universite de Strasbourg, France. Now I am starting an educational project, which can benefit thousands of children and adults. Since an early age I have been interested in how one can learn. I am highly skilled in techniques of speed reading, eidethics, target-setting, time management etc. It is obvious that mastering these methods at a school going age will help students to study in schools and universities, increase their interest in different subjects and will also help create a base to form new intellectual elite.
Imagine an average school student memorizing 4-5 better than he is now, reading at least twice faster, understanding the reasons why he is studying and managing his motivation to obtain new knowledge and to make a difference.
This type of student is often created by highly professional teachers or those who are passionate about what they do and how they teach. Of course, creating the infrastructure to train the new type of the teacher is very expensive, but I have found another way that can create a paradigm shift in our educational system. The way I suggest and have implemented successfully is by gathering together in a community and educating a want-to-be pro in some educational techniques.
My project is an attempt to gather passionate teachers and share practical knowledge on how to teach students to study faster and more effectively. At the second stage this community can switch to self-management and an intentional creation of a new teaching experience.
This project can be divided into an initial three stages:
In the first stage I propose to create an experimental course that includes information and exercises that teach students to concentrate their attention, understand principles and train their visualization capacities, memory, target-setting and time management.
In an earlier project, this stage has been already explored. I took 45 minute classes, working 10 days over a fortnight. Tests on memory capacity, attention concentration and quality of text treatment were conducted on the first and last lessons. Results of this experiment have shown an average increase of memory capacity for nouns by about 4 to 5 times depending on the class. Concentration of attention almost doubled. Quality of working with the text also doubled. 97% of the students, I worked with, continue to use this method in their further studies and find these methods very helpful.
The second stage of the proposed project is to engage with a group of interested teachers and to train them in the principles of this work so that they can train their students and others.
It will be possible to share this knowledge via mail/email, Skype conferences, forums and discussion boards. All participants have to master the proposed techniques to be able to teach them properly to their students. This will require about 20-30 hours over 3-4 weeks. After this period when a teacher starts to use the obtained knowledge, he can begin to partially or fully teach the program to his students. A slow introduction of these techniques will not influence the structure of the syllabus or learning process, but will change the way of learning within a few months of progressive teaching. During this experiment reports from the teachers have to be submmited to analyze the effects of the proposed method. In the mean time discussion groups can be formed between the teachers who are taking part in the project.
The third stage of this project can be sharing of other educational methods in schools and universities with their further application.
Of course, this program can and should be modified according to the current situation.
I would like to invite teachers, passionate and interested in learning new techniques to help their students to study better, to take part in this project. I will also be very happy if you will spread information about this teacher community project in you region of influence, schools and universities that you are cooperating with, etc. If it will be great if teachers who will train and cooperate with this project will be able to access computer and internet to simplify our cooperation.
